On Oct.16, 2017 The Capital City Area Transit System (CATS) and The Red Stick Project announced the winners of the Red Stick Bicentennial Art contest. The contest was in collaboration with The Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge and the Division of Fine Arts of EBR Schools. The contest celebrated 200 years of Baton Rouge’s history and future in public transportation and embraced ALL types of transportation. Winning designs are on display in advertising spaces at bus shelters, on buses and inside CATS buildings. Baton Rouge youth from a diversity of schools including private, public, parochial, charter and home schools were invited to participate. Designs were created with STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math) principles in mind and included one or more public transportation modes. The winners were chosen by a panel from the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge. Participating schools included Magnolia Woods, Glen Oaks Park, Dufrocq, Baton Rouge Foreign Language Academic Immersion Magnet (FLAIM), Buchanan, Glasgow Middle, Sherwood Middle, Westdale Middle, McKinley Middle, Baton Rouge Magnet High, McKinley High, and Woodlawn High.
